Lisa's 1953 Mercury Monterey

This is a 1953 Mercury Monterey that I bought for my Daughter Lisa . The Flathead engine needed to rebuilt but I found out that it had too many cracks, so I bought another engine but have been running into so many obstacles that I have decided to abandoned it for right now and I would like to get some info from anyone who might know about dropping a 289 or 302 in the Mercury.
