Help with my 1987 cougar 20th anniversary edition
Car ran when I got it. It died while running idle i thought it ran out of fuel fuel Guage doesn'twork, but fuel pump went bad put a new one in and Now it doesn't even try to start just cranks
Engine sounded healthy when it did run as well
Have tried replacing injectors spark plugs, o2 sensors and redid the timing and nothing. Can confirm I get fuel up to the shredder valve and I have spark. Gonna redo the timing again this weekend.

Nice to see another 87 Cougar owner. You never mentioned which engine. Un fortunately, I would never would have messed with the timing. It will not change on its own unless the timing chain jumped and trying to retime then is useless. The parts you changed will not prevent the engine from starting, except the pump. You need to connect an actual pressure gauge on the shrader valve and verify proper fuel pressure. Pressing the shrader valve and saying you have pressure is meaningless.Installing a cheap aftermarket pump may not be delivering proper pressure to the rail.

Oops I did forget the engine. I have the 5.0 i also forgot to mention that while running idle the engine sounded good but when driving the car wouldn't go past 30kph and so i started chasing that issue hence the 02 sensors and injectors (old ones were cracked) and timing is now correct triple checked cylinder 1 was TDC. But still won't fire. Don't currently own a fuel pressure tester so can't properly test fuel pressure till next paycheck but I didn't cheap out on the fuel pump bought one from ford dealership. Also replaced the fuel filter and made sure I didn't have a clogged line.
I hooked up a ob1 computer and couldn't get any codes to pull from the computer so I'm now thinking the cars computer died on me. Though it might just not have any
all else fails if i cabt fix the stock stuff im gonna replace the whole ignition system with either megasquirt or holley. Holley would be more expensive but pretty much everything would get changed while megasquirt the one im looking at just replaces the computer of the car
