Hi guys! I just bought a new car! A ''99 cougar, 5-spd V6, fully loaded with just 120,000 miles on it! The car was owned by a marine and fantastically maintained, with only one problem I really want to fix - Both the hydraulics that hold the trunk lid open are blown out. I''ve searched eBay and done some Googling, but I haven''t been able to find any. Any idea on where I can get some for as cheap as possible?

Thanks guys. I''m sure I''ll be around posting

these should be at any local parts store. they are expensive. some can be as much as 39.00 for one, some as cheap as 15 bucks. did you try autozone or napa? if one is not near you they can do online orders.

post some pictures of your new ride. did you get it at a great price?

I went to Autozone today, ordered 2 struts for 17.99 a piece. Seemed reasonable to me, especially since the stupid hatchback trunk is freaking heavy!

I paid 4400 for my Cougar. I had a mechanic buddy of mine some test driving with me, and he agreed with the seller - the car was in excellent condition, especially given its 10 years old.

Pics will come soon. It was in a fender bender at some point, and the owner replaced the front bumper. Instead of painting the new one to match the car (that dark gunmetal silver type color) he just tried to make a black bumper look like it belongs. I don''t like it.

That sounds like a good price.

If you want to save money on the paint job, then take the bumper off and drop it off at the paint shop. ask for a deal since they do not have to store your car or put the thing back on you car. maybe call around first and ask them how much if you did this. they would need to see your car so they can match the paint and make sure it is the original color to the vin #.

I am glad the new part worked out
