Does anyone know how to disable the seatbelt minder on the '03 Grand Marquis LS? I'm talking about the intermittant dinging bell that occurs while driving. I tried the instructions in my owner's manual and succeeded in only disableing it during that trip. The next time I got into the vehicle it was back. I can be in this car for anywhere from 1 to 8 hours at a time and this will drive me nuts. The dealership says they will do it through the computer but want me to pa $75 per side and sign a waiver that they claim they must send to my insurer. Any help?

Why not find the "dinger" and unplug it?

I tried. Everything is wired through mass connectors to a circuit board that supports the dash instrumentation and the "dinger" has other functions besides the belt minder. So, it is near impossible to identify the correct wire at the connector and, if I cut the bell from the board, I lose other warning indications. Would be nice if it was that simple.

FYI: I also tried disconnecting the sensor wire at the buckle and leaving it undone. That resulted in the bell still going off so I then jumped the connector and got a solid light and continuous bell.

Is this bell ringing even with the seatbelt fastened?
