93 Not reading mileage any more
#4
The (most of the time) always go out both, there is a shaft which connects both of them. If one goes, the other ones goes as well.
Good gears still wont work if they are loose on the shaft. And if not, then the shaft is not turning, etc. etc. etc.

I don't know about you, I see mine all the time, right in front of me.
It has nothing to do with how the signal arrives at the cluster, you were talking about the mileage not being red, that's inside the cluster.
I have been taken them apart and tried to fix. If you have what you claim to have, you are on your own. Sounds like you have a complete different one.
So no need for me to add any diagrams or repair fixes, since you have such a special one. All others, let me know if you need it. I also have a shop where they fix it fairly priced. Usually you pay about $65 for 1 set of gears, but you need both. They charge a little more, but redo the whole cluster, including calibration of the needles. Helped me with my temperature gauge.

Done!
BTW: Some of the stores sell you the "gear sets", be carefully, you need 2. And I would certainly replace all of them at once, not really worth taking the risk of having the other one fail later. That would suck. LOL
Also, I tried to "super-glue" them once (gear was slipping on shaft), that backfired badly. After a few months, and the meter not working again, another disassembly showed the gear disintegrating. Looks like the glue affected it.
Greetings!
