Battery - Make sure it fits
This is not the first time, and the same place this happened, so something you want to watch out for.
Thus my MGM is in hibernation now, the battery died a few weeks ago. It was 6.5 years old. Usually my batteries last about that time, so I guess it''s okay (yes, I do battery maintenance, as it pays off).
After the initial shock, a Sears one for $125, I traced it down to a Wal-Mart one, $65 (AZ & AA quoted around $105), which they would have delivered to my shop. No thank you, I went there, and again, the battery posts (negative/positive) were the oposite way.
After studying the cranking amps and technicals, I found out that all the places quoted a 480 amps battery. The manual lists that for the police package (on CrownVics),450 would be sufficient.
So I checked, and found a440 at Wal-Mart for $49.99, 3 year warranty. The battery posts are in the right spot.
And to top that all of, this week my SUV''s battery died. Even worse, Wal-Mart only had batteries where the posts were the opposite way, so I had to go with an AA ($99), compared to the one for the MDM, a bargain.
Greetings!
THe price of batteries has gotten absolutely crazy!!! I used to use Motorcraft batteries in everything, mainly because the local AP is an Motorcraft distributor.... Now Wal Mart powers my needs... $135 vs $52 And they seem to be holding up equally as well....
heh, I''m in the Dallas area myself, but in Texas, nor Oregon. I avoid dealerships like the plague unless I can''''t get the part anywhere else. they charge way too much. especially if they install it. $100/hr? woof! I''m not paying $120 to replace the fuel filter when I can get the $6 part on the way home from work and change it in 15 minutes. and yes, the dealer wanted $20 for a fuel filter. Genuine Motorcraft part. well overpriced for what you get in my opinion.
and this is just MY opinion. But then read my sig... "Shade-tree Mechanic"
I do it myself if I have to tools to do so (or the friends that have the tools)Edited by: slymer
