I have a 92' Grand marquis with a cold air intake and dual exhaust. i havent seemed to have any problems until the last 2-3 weeks. the car with run and idle just fine but out of no where with do a vrum.....vrum.....vrum....very spaced out and it'll die.

i have checked for just about everything else but dont know if anyone has any insight or similar issues. i know for sure the car has a small vacumn leak under the belly of the intake manifold, but i know its not significat enough to cause this.

any help??

thanks

Sorry, this kind of terminology is in no manuals nor expertise of professionals (expect the ones who already declare this irrelevant).

So if you need good advise, I recommend to be specific and use common terms.

ok...sorry i was in a rush last night when i posted.

what i mean is the car will run and idle fine for about 5 minutes then will sputter hard(like it has a huge cam) and then will turn off. once i start it up again it will not have near enough power until i get the rpms near redline. then it clears up until it idles again.

in was thinking a fuel issue like getting too much but im lost.

thanks

First attempt, without putting too much thought in it, is the idle control valve, or the air intake valve, I think it's called.

The earlier models have an issue with that, there is a TSB out there.

I never had this issue, but erratic idle sometimes. Took out the ICV and cleaned it, put it back in, works fine since then.

Again, remember, 15 years, they show their tribute.

Having any issues with the moaning?

I will be talking to my dealer today, found out there is a TSB, to see what needs to be done. Heard it would be the "air intake valve".

Whatever, just another gizmo. LOL

actually yes there is a whining/ moaning at cold idle and cold shift.

i saw the thread on that subject but my upper air intake is missing the rubber gasket that seals it to the throttle body...

i havent really looked into it yet.

You want to replace that first. That will reduce the number of issues you might have to face.

The lowest price I was able to get on this valve so far was $65. More than $100 less than what the dealer wants.

I'm currently trying to get a printout of the TSB to assure its purpose, the cause of course, and what it will do.

Greetings!
