My 2006 MGM came with a single CD and no sub-woofer. I just installed the Mercury sixCD radio, currently without the sub-woofer installed, and I have very little bass with the bass control set to maximum. The single CD had ample bass in comparison. Is this normal? OnMGM's with the sub-woofer, do they depend on the sub-wooferfor all the bass with little from the other four speakers? Or do I have a bad radio? Thanks,

I believe you need the amplifier, at least that's how it was on my Explorer, as it connects directly into the main harness. Maybe that has something to do with it:

Are you referring to an amp just for the sub-woofer only or is it forthe four speakers too?

I should have been more specific.

I upgraded to the changer, and there was no sound at all. Once I installed the amplifier, everything worked.

I never hooked up the subwoofer, thus the wiring was there, didn't seem to have had any effect on it.

Similar issue on my Taurus (no changer, but "Premium Sound System"), the new radio did not play any music at all, till I had the amplifier installed.

Now, if you adjust the bass on your radio, do you notice any change in it at all? If not, the dial (on the manual dial bass adjust) or the electronics (on the button controlled ones) might be bad.

Greetings!

Yes, there is a change in bass level as I adjust the bass level on the dial, but the the max level isas low as the low level on the single cd radio. Still looking for a sub-woofer to install. I just may have to go to the dealer to get one.

Well then, the only thing I can imagine is, that the wiring harness directs the low frequency signals through the subwoofer, which is mainly responsible for bass.

Since there is none connected, no bass.

I would think there is a way to check this, if you connect a single speaker to the subwoofer connection. If you get solid bass, then you would know for sure.

Greetings!

UPDATE - - -

Talked to the Ford radio repair center (United Radio) and they said that low bass is normal for the 6cd (6W7T-18C815-AA) changer radio. The subwoofer is needed to hear the bass. ?! The four speakers have little bass. I have ordered a subwoofer (6W7Z-18C-804-AA) from a Ford dealer in TX - $209 vs $294 frommy local dealer. I still think that there should be more bass than what I hear. Oh Well! When I get it installed and working, I'll report again.

Yep, that's what I thought.

Well, looking at the prices, makes the fog light purchase (even that you might have to get one brand new) look like a bargain. LOL

SUBWOOFER INSTALLED and now I have more bass. Yet, the other four speakers still have limited bass as compared to the single cd radio. Oh well, case closed for now.
