Default Whats the best oil to use?

Hi...Whats the best grade oil to use in a 2003 Grand Marquis?

Also, is it safe to change transmission fluid on the car with 100K?

Thank you

I believe Ford specifies 5w20 'blend' for your year car, but double check at Valvoline's web site.

You have nothing to loose and everything to gain by dropping the trans pan and swapping the filter, and a top off of fresh MERCON fluid. NO TRANS FLUSH should be performed on your car at that mileage.

Let us know how you make out, Bill

Hi Bill

Yes, your right about 5 W20 oil. I usually like to use something a little heavier on a car with miles. I also have a Northstar Cadillac with 305K miles on it and I use 20 W50 with it. Seems to last longer.

Thanks, I will definitely do the trans fluid change with Filter.

If you want to thicken it up a bit, use one quart of lucas oil with your oil change. On my 92, I use 20-50 with a quart of lucas.

If you are concerned about high mielage, I have heard really good things about Valvoline's MAX LIFE. They have a 5w20 blend Max Life. I listen to multiple podcasts about car's and car repairs, and they all claim that MAX LIFE is really good. It is about 5% synthetic, whereas DuraBlend, and most synthetic blends are about 15%.

My 2009 Grand Marquis mentions (Motorcraft) syntethic blend in all of the oil descriptions in the owner's manual and factory service literature. I went ahead and used Valvoline DuraBlend at it's first oil chnage, and registered the car for the 250,000 mile guarentee (what the heck).

I also know many people who swear by Lucas products, but me personally, I am not much of an additive kind of guy.

My two cents foe the day, Bill

Yes..thanks guys

I never put additives in this old cadi I have but it keeps going and going. She is at 306K now and is as quiet as ever. For how long-no one knows. But I always like to know any car tips I can get to maintain long life of these machines.
