If the computer is replaced there will be no history of what happened to the old computer on the in one. As for as diagnosising the old one, I doudt anybody will do anything with it, if it was bad.

For those who may have been following my story, here is the latest:

My Mountaineer was finally returned on March 15. The problem was a bad injector, and the pcm had to be replaced. The reasonfor the delay(s) had to do with bad parts that were delivered from Mercury, which had to be returned and replaced w/ working parts. But finally, the job was finished and I have my vehicle. Being that a 6 cylinder is a 6 cylinder, the acceleration is what it is. But otherwise, it seems ok. There are a few squeaks, I believe the serpentine belt is a wee bit tight, but otherwise....ok. Hey MercAdviser, I saw something on the net having to do with a TSB in regard to Head Gasket repair. Do this sound familiar to you?

Noted, and thanks. So far, so good. The 'neer seems to be running ok. Is there anything I should be looking for that might let me know if there is an underlying problem? Also, does anyone know if my model of Mountaineer has the transmission that "learns as you drive?" I have a 2002 6 cylinder 4.0l AWD.
