Exclamation 2007 Montego transmission problem

I own a 2007 Mercury Montego Premier left to me by my mother at 44K Miles. Vehicle has been excellent for 5 years. Replaced tires at 90K miles. 95K miles, engine began groaning when transmission shifts into 6th gear at speeds below 40 mph - like shifting manual transmission into higher gear at speeds too low.

Possible causes:
1) Transmission fluid - needed to be replaced. Done at 95K miles. Technician said vehicle was in excellent condition. No problem codes found. Groaning subsided for about 1k miles, but slowly came back.

2) Tires - vehicle specs requires 225/55/18. Unknowingly installed 235/55/18; Goodyear Assurance. Tires are larger than originals --> .22 in higher, .40 in wider, .44 in wider in diameter, 1.46 in greater in circumstance. See attachment.

3) Recent research - found out about speed sensors, wondered if this could be the problem?

4) Wondering if transmission can be adjusted to delay shifting into 6th gear at higher speed?

Any suggestions on the most likely cause? Can the transmission be adjusted to remedy the problem?

WHY in the world would you be in 6th gear below 40 mph !??
That aside --
You have changed the gear ratios slightly (taller) by installing the 235/55/18 tires. The change would add additional strain on the transmission.
You had the fluid "changed". Did they use the genuine Motorcraft Mercon V fluid ??
Did they change the transmission FILTER at the same time ?
Did they "change" the fluid by pumping out the old fluid and pumping in the new stuff ?
This method of changing trans fluid has become popular in recent years, because it saves TIME for the "technicians", but it's NOT the recommended method for changing the fluid.
Standard proceedure for changing trans fluid is to drop the transmission pan, clean the pan and magnet, replace the filter with the proper Motorcraft filter, and fill with the Motorcraft fluid.

Check to see if your car has an "Overdrive Off" switch, usually found on the end of the gearshift lever.
If so, turn the overdrive OFF until you have reached 50 mph or more.
Good Luck !!
