Hello there,

I am new to this website. I have a 2000 Mercury Mystique, and unfortunately I am having serious problems with it since last Friday. My car has began to hesitate/bog down upon acceleration, and I can't put my finger on what is wrong, and neither can my mechanic. It has almost caused me to get into accidents due to it stalling upon climbing hills, and today it has been hestitating extremely bad to the point it has died and took over 3 times of engaging the ignition before it would turn over. At first I thought I had gotten bad gas, but I do not that is the case. When it was put on a computer diagnostic scanner, no codes came up, and unfortunately the car runs top notch when I take it to the mechanic. I have been on several websites, and apparently I am not the only one having this same problem with the Mystique, years 98"-00". Others have changed their air filters, spark plugs, oil filters, fuel filters, distributor caps, transmissions, fuel pumps, had their transmissions flushed and fuel injectors cleaned, etc., but have had not luck with this problem. Nothing came up on their diagnostic scans neither. All of these cars have milege from 93,000-115,000 on them. I do not know what to do! The only thing I have done so far was cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor and put fuel injector cleaner/HEAT into my gas, but no results. I do not have the money to replace eveything like the others have, and not have it fix the problem! Anyone else experiencing the same thing or have and suggestions? PLEASE HELP! The bad thing is that I just paid my car off in February, and my extended warranty is expired!

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that it is not the catalyic converter, because we have noticed my car hesitates/ stalls onlyonce it reaches under a quarter tank of gas. It runs excellent if it is above 1/2 tank.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! My check engine light is now on so hopefully a code will come up on the diagnostic. I will have my gas gauge checked also.
