My 1997 Mercury Sable battery cable was disconnected for a while, and
then reconnected. Now the radio won't work and only "CALL" is displayed
on the radio. I push other buttons but nothing helps or does anything.
I assume its locked somehow. I pulled the radio out and found the
following numbers on it if that helps

and on back engraved is F6DF-18K817-EB



I called about half a dozen Ford car sales/repair places and none of
them had a clue. I told them them the car once had a car phone
installed but they didn't think that meant anything related to the
display on the radio. One suggested I pull the battery terminal
connection off for an hour, so I did but that didn't clear the code.



Any help or ideas? The radio worked fine until I temporarily disconnected the battery.... [img]smileys/smiley6.gif[/img]

i think the stereo is defaulting as an anti-theft issue when power was lost to it.

Try w/the power to the car on, but radio on oroff, and hit the set button like you were setting a radio station or the clock. Is it a MACH system? Does it have CD changer in the trunk? Let me know cause I have all the original owners manuals somewhere. Including one whole manual dedicated to the stereo. Will it play a CD or a cassette?

I found my Sable owners manuals. It says if your Sable had the cellular phone option,(it took up the entire inside of the console) the stereo would automatically volumn down and display CALL on the stereo. I would look for the old phone harness at the bottom of console or reach around the front, torward the engine and see if you can find a small wire harness headind toward the center console. See if you can unplug it. If not check your fuse boxes(2) for a fuse labled phone, or something of that nature, and pull it. Let me know.
