Default Check Engine Light

I have a 2001 Sable that was bucking and the engine light came on so I had it checked by Auto Zone and they said #1 cylinder misfire. So I changed plugs and wires and all is fine now. Since it is illegal for Auto Zone to reset the light...is there a way for me to do it? On another car I had one time I used a paper clip. Any suggestions? Thanks

Well i would ask you to consult with a technician about the reset of the lights. He'll be able to guide you.

Do you know anyone with a code reader? Anyone with a code reader can erase your DTC codes. I've never heard of using a paper clip and I don't think I would try that, but you can reset your codes yourself by disconnecting the battery for several hours (usually overnight). The drawback is that your car may not run right for the first 25 miles or so while the computer re-learns strategies and you will have to reset all of your radio's station pre-sets. The best way is with a code reader. You can purchase your own very inexpensive code reader at Harbor Frieght. The cheapest one they sell will do the job.

Addition: After you have the distributor back in, the water pump and timing cover sealed up, put the balancer back on. Then yes you will have to fire the engine to set the timing.
