My mercury sable from 91 does the following:

when hitting the gas pedal to full trottle, it stays at 4000 rmp and woulnd go further, and sounds as if it''s misfiring at some cylinders.

Could any one tell me where to look?

sorry for the poor english, but i''m dutch.

the enegine is a 3.0 litre v6

sounds like a fuel pressure prob. how does it idle? how does it run if you putt-putt through the gears? does it always misfire? is there a substantial power loss? let me know.

thanks for the reaction!!

checked the fuelpomp, working fine, checked the filter as well, was brand new.

yesterday i replaced the ingintion cap, rotor and cables, now the misfire is gone, so that''s fixed.

ill still got to fix the max 4000 rmp prob.

while driving the car, all seems to be working just fine, but than again the enegine does not go above 3000 rmp.

all gears working fine, even with overdrive.

on park, it still won''t go above 4000 rmp''s, could it be that there is a limiter installed on the european version?

First thing....is why are you reving it up to 4000 rpms in park for????

Theres no problem, It definatly a rev limiter...try to take off from a stop and run it past 4000 rpms while driving. It should shift about 5000 rpms.

I dont see any problems here. hope this helps!!
