Default Windshield wiper problem.

The wipers on my 1999 Grand Marquis won't return to their proper low position anymore. They won't even operate for awhile after being used.
Can the returning position be adjusted, or do I have to replace the wiper motor? Thanks in advance.

Default Dorman Wiper Arms

Your Grand Marquis has the same problem that other CrownVics, Marquis', and Town Cars have had since the windshild wiper design was changed around 1992.
The OEM wiper arms are LOCKED in place on the motor shaft with a "key", which falls out when the wiper arm is removed.
I replaced both wiper arms with a new design that keeps the "key" in place and the arm in it's proper position.
Dorman #42618 = Passenger's Side (Right)
Dorman #42619 = Driver's Side (Left)
After over 4 years of use, the Dorman wiper arms keep the wipers in their proper position, the wiper blades make proper contact with the windshield, and the combination works perfectly to keep the windshield clear in all conditions.
I recommend BOSCH ICON wiper blades -- you'll need the Bosch #22A for the Left side, and the Bosch #22B for the right side.
I purchased my Dorman wiper arms and Bosch wiper blades from Amazon.com

These direct fit Bosch Icon wiper blades fit just fine into my existing wiper arms, but they won't lock in. What am I doing wrong?

The OEM wiper arms are FUBAR -- constant problems and no solutions.
I junked the OEMs and got a pair of Dorman wiper arms from Amazon.
The original wiper arms would not hold the wiper blades down against the windshield.
The Dorman wiper arms have a stronger spring that holds the blades down properly, even at freeway speeds.

I fought the OEM wiper problems for several years before I discovered the Dorman Wiper Arms - Bosch Icon Wiper Blades combination.

As the song says: "I can see clearly, now !!"

I don't know what to tell ya, GS38 --
I had to monkey with 'em to get 'em to lock in, too.
BUT, they did snap in after a bit of re-reading of the instructions on the package -- and pulling real hard on the wiper toward the "hook" at the end of the wiper arm.
Seems best results are obtained when the wipers are at the "middle" of their stroke.
Use the ignition key to stop 'em where ya want 'em.
Good Luck !

Thanks, Merc! I finally got em to lock in. They were just tight. Thanks again.

You're most welcome, GS !
I fought bad wipers on our '92 CrownVic and our '95 Merc for YEARS before finally arriving at a solid solution.
I found that NO brand of wiper blades would work properly with the original "factory" wiper arms, because the ARMS are the problem !!
The combination of Dorman Arms and Bosch Icon Blades have been working perfectly for a few years now.
Good Luck !!
