2003 Mercury Mountaineer 5R55W – Lost Drive/Reverse After Driving Fine, Solenoid Pack
Hey everyone,
I’m dealing with a transmission issue on my 2003 Mercury Mountaineer (V8, 5R55W) and wanted to see if anyone has run into something similar.
The SUV was driving completely fine earlier in the day. No slipping, no delayed shifts, nothing out of the ordinary. On my way home later that night, I pulled into a parking lot, put it in Park, and when I went to leave… the transmission suddenly wouldn’t move the vehicle in Drive or Reverse. It would go into the gears, but the truck wouldn’t move at all — almost like it wasn’t engaging anything.
The only way I could get it to move was by putting it in 3rd gear, and even then it wasn’t normal but at least it would pull enough to get home.
I’ve already pulled the pan and removed the solenoid pack, since I’ve been chasing a P0745 issue. Before I go further (valve body, EPC pressure issues, etc.), I wanted to see if anyone has experienced this exact “no movement in D or R but moves in 3” situation.
Any ideas on what typically causes this on the 5R55W?
