Hello, all, I am new here and I need some help. Yesterday, the heater
in my 97 Mountaineer worked fine. This morning, only blows cold air. We
have had a few mornings this cold before, and all worked well. The fan
blows correctly, and I can't find anything else that isn't working.
Almost got frostbite before I got to work this morning. HELP!

It is probably your thermostat or your water pump. When you stop at a red light, does the car temperature rise?


I just had this happen to me in a pontiac and it ended up being the waterpump.I hope it is just your thermostat, as that is cheaper job.

Nope, the temp comes up and stays, no matter if I am moving or not. I've got hot hoses going to and
coming from the core. I took the temp control out of the dash, and
checked for resistance. It has about 5K ohms on the two outside pins,
and varying resistance from the middle to either one of the outside
pins.

I got one of those wimpy Haynes manuals from Auto Zone, and it is
useless. Another Question- there is a vacuum operated solenoid on one
of the hoses to the core. What does it do, and which direction is open
or closed? Anyone?

SORRY TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS BUT THE BLEND DOOR PROBABLY BROKE WHICH IS COMMON ON 95 - 2000 VEHICLES WHAT YOU CAN DO IS TRY MOVING THE TEMP SWITCH SLOWLY BACK AND FORTH AND SEE IF HEAT STARTS TO COME OUT IF DOES THEN ITS ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING IF NOT THEN YOU STILL NED TO HAVE DOOR CHECKED THE ACTATOR IS BEHIND GLOVE BOX ON TOP OF EVAPORATOR BOX TO CHANGE DOOR BOX HAS TO BE CHANGED WHICH MEANS DASH HAS TO COME OUT ITS NOT CHEAP OR EASY LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK
