I have an 02 Sable with 89K miles. There is a phenomenon that has started where I lose all power (including engine) for a second or two and then it comes back. I have had the car into two dealers and they can never find anything wrong. It doesn't store a code when it does whatever it's doing. Some other symptoms that happen are: the radio will cut out and back in at lower volume with static, the speedometer will bounce from 0 to 20 while sitting still, a ticking noise coming from the dash, my radar detector (powered by cigarette lighter) will go on and off with the tick noise just mentioned. Does anyone have any idears on that?

I have a 98 Sable LS 24V also have an electrical problem. Less than 90k miles. About every 6 months or less the battery slowly drains to the point where is barely starts. After a put a trickle charger on it is OK again for monthes. New battery. My old battery was worse as it completely reset the power when it would not start. Then would start and continue. It really seems as if the alternator is not calibrated properly to keep the battery full even when traveling makes no difference.

I just recently purchased a 2003 sable from a coworker that indicated the exact same trouble you mentioned (intermittent electrical stalls and ticking when ignition turned off) started with this car at 70,000 miles. The ford dealership could not find the problem. This car now has 140,000 miles. This condition now happens every couple of weeks and then goes away. If you find the problem let me know. I will let you know also if i canfind someone that can correct the problem. Again this problems sounds exactly like the issues I have.

It sounds like either a cam or crank sensor acting up. There are very few things that will cause immediate engine failure while driving.
