Just purchased a used 03'' Sable with 83K. I''m looking to add a block heater. Called the local Ford dealer and the part is like $35, but they want about $160 to install. Is this right? Is it possible to do myself?

I was also thinking about just slapping on an oil pan heater for $50.

What do you think the best option would be?

Thanks!

$80/hr for a 2 hour job. sounds about right. generally if you know what you need to do, and have the tools to do it, you can do it yourself. I don''t know the first thing about block heaters cause we don''t need them here in Texas. doesn''t get cold enough. I''m sure some other folks around here have been around them a little more than me and might know what you''ll need to do and may also know the pros and cons between the block heater and oil pan heater.

I''d do anything to get temps up here in the frozen tundra above 15 degrees for a week or two!

I suppose $80 an hour is about right, thanks for reminding me that. Still not sure what I''m going to do.
