94 sable gets only 240miles per fill up
#1
So the car runs great... no oil burnage... only 126,000 miles.... it has ALWAYS gotten about 200 miles per tank.... (bought originally with 101,000 miles from my uncles mom who only drove it to church and into town (5 miles))
It is a 94 with the 3.8L... i think it's the GS (power seat and alloy wheels stock)
If i use sunoco gas i can get 220 milesper tank
if i use sunoco 89 octane i'll get an extra 10-20miles per tank
Car has a K&N filter all nice and clean....
It baffles me that my 94 z28 camaro with 550+ hp gets the same gase mileage
what do you think??
Also i'm brand new to the forum.... HI :-)

It seems that just a small difference in octane rating has a drastic effect on your overall mpg. Ithink for the year, mileage, and the notorious thirsty 3.8(the 3.0 wasn't much better) you get a decent amount of range per tank. You have to take into effect your tanks' capacity when comparingmpg with another vehicle. I find almost impossible that it comes close with your Z28 (I imagine a 502 c.i. with a blower to get that kind of H.P.)1994 was the first year of the last body change of the Camaro, and I thinkyou could get the6 or 8 cylinder option and it would be comparable in mpg to a 3.8 Ford w/100,000+ miles. Ironically, I had a '95 Z28 LT1 before my Sable and it got way more range to a full tank (highway only) than my '97 Ford 3.0 24VDuratec. You also need to take into account how heavy your foot is when your driving. Unless your engine is pinging or you're getting alot detonation I think you should shop around for the cheapest 87 you can find. That's what it was made to run on and gas ain't cheap these days. Write me back about you're Z, cause before my Sable, every car I ever owned (that's 5) were all Camaros. I'm curious about your Z's specs. Later scar, and welcome to the forum.</BLOCKQUOTE>

And you're basically saying my old 3.8 in my 94 sable is a guzzler no matter what correct?

OK.... I solved the issue.
Air filter was not clogged... but needed a good cleaning.... Apparently I have to clean mine every 3 months it gets dirty that fast
Also I tossed a bottle of "water wetter" into my radiator. The temp stays nice and cold now. The temp gauge is always on or below the "L" in the word "NORMAL" (in other words it runs nice and cold for that little bit better gas mileage.)
And also, for the past year my rear passenger caliber was sticking (i was unaware of) and caused the brake to be on. (Brake lights stayed off when pedel was not pressed). A year later the pads wore into the rotor enough for it to stop touching and my acceleration is better.
$200 from new rear pads/rotors/calibers, a K&N recharger kit, and a bottle of water wetter I'm getting great gasmileage.
I did alll this work on half a tank of gas. When i filled up i calculated 20.7mpg (half a tank running the 17mpg and half running the new mpg)... and that was all city. So now that i have a full tank i'll calculate it out for next time. It looks like it's going to be looking around 23mpg city.... yay
