broken vacuum lines... worn plugs, wires, coils, etc. weak starter. Could be any number of things.

It could also be a battery with one weak or dead cell that can't give the proper amount of power by itself, but once the engine fires, the alternator kicks in and provides all the power needed. I'd start with the battery and rule out the electrical before delving into the hoses and such. I've driven vehicles for a long time with a battery that had a weak cell. hard to start, but ran great. You can really tell if this is the problem by paying close attention to how the engine sounds while cranking and if you put jumper cables to another car and it cranks faster, then it is definitely the battery.

Does the engine turn over slowly or does it crank quickly and strong?

yes, but when it fires it runs strong then through out the day (engine warm) it starts quicker.

yes? so which one... slowly or quickly? if it's slow, it may be a weak starter.

If you meant slowly then faster over the course of the day, then maybe you should test for starter draw.

my Grand Marquis in my signature did this after buying it. it would crank for 4 or 5 seconds or longer before starting. it ended up being worn out plugs and wires. it was really bad with moisture in the air during or after a rain.
