Default Lovely Lady Needs Assistance Please

Hey Fellas,

I have a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis with 96,000 miles - she's been good but lately:

1) My check engine light is on
2) I have codes: 102 and 305 (anyone know what these are?)
3) She's shaking when idling
4) She's cut off a few times in drive while idling and 1x while driving

I have done some auto mechanics and with good direction feel confident that I can fix these issues with help from you guys.

Please help. Thanks!

Smile I'll Try

I believe the actual codes are P0102 which should be a problem with the mass air flow sensor. Should be an easy replacement. Actually should be done fairly regularly. P0305 should be a misfire on the #5 cylinder. I'm not sure if this could be related to the MAF sensor or maybe something else. I would try changing the sensor first and having the codes cleared and see if the second code comes up again. Hope this helps.

Try some high quality gas in it first, I would try cleaning the MAF sensor using cleaner make for it since it is easy to get to and doesn't take but a few minutes, sometimes the fine wire you see on the sensor gets trash and stuff on it and will cause codes. When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Default Thanks guys. Is it the MAF or MAP sensor? Also

where exactly is it located? The fuel filter hasn't been changed. Should I do that also?

Your MAF sensor, located on the plastic air intake near the air filter. Your fuel filter is right in front of the driver side rear tire mounted to the frame underneath, it has a screw style band clamp around it to hold it in place. The in and out gas lines each have a nylon hairpin clip you have to remove by spreading the bottom points and pushing them up. You will need a plastic pan to catch the gas, new filter will come with 2 new nylon hairpin connectors. I would still fill it up with known quality gas first.

Thanks! I will definitely try the highest quality gas first! I plan to clean or change the sensors soon so I can get inspected.
